Fusion Jerky - Turkey

fusion jerky
Fusion Jerky is a new brand of jerky that has managed to get a lot notice from other big brands in the jerky business. Based out of South San Francisco, CA it's the creation of KaiYen Mai, a mother of two and avid outdoorswoman, who wanted to focus on Asian-style jerky.

"In my home country of Taiwan, jerky is a celebrated delicacy, akin to a fine wine", Mai says in her marketing materials. Fusion Jerky offers beef, turkey, chicken, and pork styles encompassing eight flavors. It's made using US raised animals at their ranch in Scottsbluff, NE. It's marketed as gluten-free, all natural, preservative free, and nitrate free.

These turkey jerky varieties are said to be made from breast meat at the company's own USDA-inspected facility in Scottsbluff, NE.

Tapa Doble - Garlic & Rosemary

tapa doble
Tapa Doble is a new brand of Spanish cured meats based in Madrid, Spain, having just launched last month. The company sent me a sample of their original flavor, "Garlic & Rosemary".

It's perhaps best described as "cecina", a form of Spanish cured meats utilizing Mediterranean sea salt, and then air dried. It has the look and aroma of biltong, a South African variety of cured meat.

Tapa Doble currently offers this Garlic & Rosemary variety, with a Picante variety coming soon.

Alien Fresh Jerky - Galactic Garlic with Rosemary

alien fresh jerkyEvery couple of months my wife and I hit the road to Las Vegas, and along the way I always make a stop at the Alien Fresh Jerky store in Baker, CA.

For one, it's a entertaining place to visit with the space alien theme, the alien exhibits, the alien t-shirts and the hilarious rack of comical hot sauces. But I also like to check what they have new in jerky flavors, and it seems every time I'm there I find something I hadn't seen before. Such is the case with this Galactic Garlic with Rosemary beef jerky.

Read my previous reviews of Alien's other flavors.

You often hear stories of dead cattle being found in pastures with all their insides removed but their hides intact, and you wonder what the heck happened? Well it seems little green men from outerspace have developed a technology for making beef jerky. Nuking planets all over the Universe requires a lot of protein, and after perfecting their recipe they decided to turn it into a business.
