Chicken jerky is quickly becoming a popular phenomenon, and seemingly one day may replace turkey as the favorite among poultry jerky. Chicken jerky had long been a popular form of dog treats, but recently it's been found that it has greater flavor satisfaction than turkey jerky, and is now in the realm of people treats.

Bubba's Carolina Jerky - Wild Buffalo Chicken Jerky

Bubba's Carolina Jerky is a brand that started in 2004 by Bubba Dunn, a retired veteran who spent 36 years in the US Coast Guard and US Army. The company is based out of Cocoa, FL.

Dunn grew up in an outdoor sporting family that frequently hunted, fished, and raised livestock. Lean meats were often turned into jerky using an old family recipe. Today, he spends his time perfecting marinades, running his jerky company, and making special batches of dehydrated meats for friends. Bubba's Carolina Jerky prides itself on using meat from US ranchers. Their jerky is sold through stores including Mast General Stores, Contemporary Nutrition, Edgewater True Value, and Crossroads Ace Hardware.

This "Wild Buffalo" is one of two chicken jerky flavors offered by the company. They describe it as "hot wings", having a "zesty hot taste", and "tender and full of flavor".

Simply Snackin - Gourmet Meat Snacks

Simply Snackin is a line of gourmet meat snacks produced by Silver Creek Specialty Meats based out of Oshkosh, WI. The brand has been around for several years and is produced at the company's own USDA inspected facility.

Silver Creek Specialty Meats was established in 1989 when Dr. William Kramlich and his wife Dorothy purchased the meat division of R-Line Foods, Inc. a division of JM Smucker Co. located in Ripon, Wisconsin. Since then, the company has gone on to make a wide variety of sausages, jerky, and meat snacks.

Simply Snackin is evolved from the old Native American "pemmican", which is a mixture of dried meat and fruit. The line includes beef, chicken, and venison variety, and combines together cranberries, blueberries, mangoes, apples, and even black bean salsa. They're all gluten-free, preservative-free, with no fillers, artificial ingredients, or MSG. We have 4 of their 9 varieties for review below.

Since then, Roy has been selling his jerky in local markets and retailers in California. Recently they started a website and are now taking online orders.

Crazy Horse Jerky has a new flavor out called, "Chicken Mesquite Bar-B-Q".

It's their real wood smoked chicken jerky with a barbecue sauce glaze and mesquite flavoring added. They claim it to have a "nice spicy, not too sweet flavor."

Crazy Horse Beef Jerky is a brand made by Dave & Cara Wenrich of Hellam, PA. They're jerky is based on an old family recipe that Dave got from his father, who handed it down from his father, and his father. It's smoked using maple, oak, and fruit woods.

Clint & Sons - Yard Bird Chicken Jerky

Chicken Jerky continues to proliferate the meat snack industry as a more tasty alternative to Turkey Jerky. This entry from Clint & Sons is the fourth chicken jerky brand I've review thus far (see others).

Clint & Sons is a meat processing facility located in White Deer, TX. It's a family run business that goes back to 1944 when Clint Freeman opened it up. Today it's run by his sons and grandchildren.

Yard Bird Chicken Jerky, as best as I can tell, is not related to Yard Bird Jerky, a different brand of chicken jerky, based in Temple, TX.

Steve's Original Chicken Jerky - Buffalo Wing

The newest jerky offering from Steve's Original is this Chicken Jerky in a buffalo wing recipe. See my previous reviews of Steve's Original here.

Steve's Original is the creation of Steve Liberati, the founder of Steve's Club, a fitness center for disadvantaged youth, based in Camden, NJ. Steve's Original is a line of fitness foods based on the "Paleo Diet". Proceeds from the sales of Steve's Original goes towards Steve's Club.

This Chicken Jerky is made from breast meat using free range chickens, free of hormones and antibiotics.

Dole Plantation Brand Hickory Smoked Jerky

A couple weeks ago, I published a review of Dole Plantation Brand Pineapple Flavored Ham Jerky. Here's their other flavor, Hickory Smoked Jerky.

This product says its made with beef and chicken, with hickory smoke added.

I found this while on vacation in Hawaii at an ABC Store in Honolulu. It's actually the product of Bric-A-Brac, Inc., out of Las Vegas, NV, but manufactured by Monogram Meat Snacks, who makes hundreds of other brands of jerky.
