Billy D's Beef Jerky - Peppered

Billy D's Beef Jerky - PepperedBilly D's Beef Jerky is a brand of DeRosa Sales based out of Woodland, CA. DeRosa Sales is a convenience store supplier and consultant, supplying stores with snack foods and helping them maximize sales.

The name "Billy D's" appears to come from the company's founder, Bill DeRosa. I found this particular Peppered variety at an ARCO AM/PM station in Barstow, CA. There were other varieties of this jerky, but I only bought the Peppered.

DeRosa Sales contracts with KMB Foods out of Arcadia, CA to manufacture this jerky. KMB Foods private labels jerky for a variety of brands, and this particular meat appears to be the same used in Jawbone Jerky, Oh Boy! Oberto Thick Cuts, and Buffalo Bills Dead Meat.

Alien Fresh Jerky - Ahi Tuna Jerky

Alien Fresh Jerky - Ahi Tuna JerkyNext in the series on Alien Fresh Jerky is this Ahi Tuna Jerky. See my previous reviews on Alien Fresh Jerky.

This is my first Ahi Tuna Jerky, so I have little to compare with. I did a couple of salmon jerky brands, and even a clam jerky, so I'm eager to get more seafood jerky on this blog.

Alien Fresh Jerky is a brand of The Ramallos Corporation, based out of Las Vegas, NV, but sells their jerky through their famous store in Baker, CA, (at least famous to Southern Californians on their way up to Las Vegas). This particular ahi tuna jerky was produced by TM Jerky & Processing based out of Monrovia, CA. TM Jerky private labels jerky for a wide variety of brands.

Alligator Bob's Alligator Jerky - Original

Alligator Bob's Alligator Jerky Alligator Bob's is a brand name of Robert N. Young and Associates, Inc. based out of Thonotosassa, FL. They specialize in selling exotic meat jerky, particularly alligator.

The company says Robert Young had been an alligator trapper in Florida who realized that visitors to Florida had expressed an interest in trying alligator meat, but found it difficult to obtain in a cheap snackable form. So in 1990 he experimented with ways to produce an alligator jerky, and then in 1994 developed a product. And so, Alligator Bob's was born.

This alligator jerky is said to be 95% alligator and 5% pork, to meet USDA regulations. In addition to this original variety, they also offer Cajun Spice.

Here's what Black Forest Bison has to say about this Tombstone Teriyaki, "Wyatt, Doc, and the gang love this tasty treat! When you want a little something sweet we are ready to please. Pack your steamer trunk for the orient; we made sure the ginger and soy aren't covered with too much sweetness. Don't want to git that six shooter all sticky!"

Alien Energy Jerky - Peppered

Alien Energy Jerky - PepperedAlien Energy Jerky is an extension of the Alien Fresh Jerky brand, designed to capitalize on the energy-infused snack food craze. Alien Fresh Jerky is a brand of The Ramallos Corporation, based out of Las Vegas, NV.

Alien Fresh Jerky is well known to southern Californians who travel up and down Interstate 15 heading to and from Las Vegas. There are billboard signs advertising the jerky store in Baker, CA. The store itself is adorned with alien caricatures, and alien-themed products.

But the town of Baker, CA is also a popular truck stop, and I think that's the idea behind Alien Energy Jerky. Since there's already a lot of truckers stopping there, this is perhaps a way for Alien Fresh Jerky to capture a little extra market share. In fact, The Ramallos Corporation is actively looking for distributors for this new line of jerky.

Jersey Boyz Jerky - Habanero Dusted

Jersey Boyz Jerky - Habanero DustedJersey Boyz Jerky is a brand of beef jerky based out of Garfield, NJ.

They specialize in offering varieties of hot jerky. They take beef jerky, and coat it in a "dusting" of chile peppers. This one I have for review was coated in flakes of habanero chiles. They also have varieties dusted with jalapeno, scotch bonnet, serrano, chocolate habanero, thai, fatalii, and they're favorite, dorset naga.

Each package includes a flossy tooth pick.

It's the only jerky manufacturer I've seen thus far who specializes only in hot jerky. Their jerky won a scovie award at a past Fiery Foods Festival. Doug, the owner of Jersey Boyz Jerky also operates the "Peppers and More" web forum, where he has a section just for beef jerky.

Alien Fresh Jerky - Colon Cleaner Hot

Alien Fresh Jerky - Colon Cleaner HotNext up in the series on Alien Fresh Jerky is this "Colon Cleaner Hot" variety. You can read my reviews of their jerky varieties by clicking on "Alien Fresh Jerky".

Here's what Alien Fresh Jerky says about this particular variety...

The closest food to eating fire, this stuff measures 250,000 scoville hot units!!! BE WARNED: This is very very VERY hot jerky - it's not spicy, it's not mild, IT'S EXTREMELY HOT!!!!

By comparison, a raw jalapeno pepper ranges between 2,500 to 8,000 scoville units, while the habanero pepper ranges between 200,000 to 300,000. So, I'm expecting my mouth to experience the insanity of a whole habanero pepper.

Black Forest Bison - Gunsmoke Bison Jerky

Black Forest Bison JerkyBlack Forest Bison is a small family operated bison ranch just north of Colorado Springs, CO. It's been in operation for six years, dedicated to raising all natural grass fed bison. They sell steaks, roasts, ribs, sausage, and jerky.

It appears their jerky is quite the popular item, having won awards at the National Bison Association for this Gunsmoke Bison Jerky, along with a Scovie Award for their Caliente Canyon Spice, and at the Fiery Foods Challenge Zest Fest, for their Double Black Diamond Bison Jerky.

This Gunsmoke Bison Jerky appears to be the closest thing they have to a "regular" variety. I have samples of their other varieties, which I'll be reviewing throughout this month.

Dad's Jerky - Ring of Fire

Dad's Jerky - Ring of FireContinuing on with the series on Dad's Jerky is this "Ring of Fire" variety of beef jerky. See my previous reviews of their Teriyaki, Original Steak, and Hot Turkey.

Dad's Jerky is a brand of Dad's Jerky, LLC, based out of Lake Isabella, CA. Several of their varieties are actually made by TM Jerky & Processing based out of Monrovia, CA, and this "Ring of Fire" variety is such.

If you recall, I had published a review for Papa Dan's - Ring of Fire, and as it turns out, that's exactly the same as this Ring of Fire from Dad's Jerky. Both were made by TM Jerky & Processing. So, I expect the exact same review, though certain factors like age, and differences from one batch to another, may cause subtle changes.

But it's not, however, the same as "Ring of Fire - Beef Jerky" from Mike & Diane's Gourmet Kitchen, Inc.

Alien Energy Jerky - Hot

Alien Energy Jerky Alien Energy Jerky is a new line of jerky from Alien Fresh Jerky, that tries to cash in on the energy food craze. It actually contains some energy ingredients, like caffeine, B vitamins, and guarana. The amount of caffeine is about equivalent to two to four cups of coffee.

Honey Teriyaki, Peppered, Hot, and Sweet & Spicy are the varieties in this line. The company is trying to position this as a "stay awake" snack, perhaps for long-haul truckers who want both beef jerky and something to keep their eyes open. Alien Fresh Jerky has a website just for this energy line, looking for distributors.

After eating a bag of this stuff, perhaps I'll be up all night too.

Oh Boy! Oberto Pork Jerky - Peppered

Oh Boy! Oberto Pork Jerky This peppered pork jerky is the newest offering from Oh Boy! Oberto. Pork jerky is something that's been around for awhile in other brands, but has only recently gained popularity.

Oberto is constantly introducing oddity varieties like this as a way to attract consumer attention. That is, they'll place a shelf full of this stuff, right next to their basic staples of beef jerky. People will take notice of the purple color, and slow down, or stop altogether, and that gets them noticing the regular beef jerky.
