Ball Park Beef Jerky - Peppered

ball park beef jerky
Ball Park brand of hot dogs came out with this line of beef jerky in 2015 at a time when meat snack popularity started hitting new highs. Originally a part of Hillshire Brands, Ball Park became a part of Tyson Foods when Tyson acquired Hillshire.

The decision to add jerky to the famous hot dog brand came about as a way for Tyson to extend its meat processing empire to Millennials, who tend to eat snacks throughout the day as opposed to sitting down at the dinner table for a full meal.

This Peppered Beef Jerky is described by the company as having, "...the perfect dash of pepper to give it a surprising little kick."

Lucky Brand Jerky - Jerky Sticks

lucky brand jerky sticks
Lucky Brand Jerky is a new brand of jerky, but has a long history. It's the product of Nebraska Star Beef, a family owned business that has been producing premium beef, along with beef jerky, for over 100 years.

Recently, the company changed the way it raises cattle, returning to its roots on herdsmanship, grass-fed, without antibiotics and growth hormones, and allowing their animals roam freely. Their jerky is made with no MSG, no sodium nitrite, and no artificial ingredients.

This "Stick Jerky" looks like traditional meat sticks, or snack sausage, except it's not in a casing. It's really more like chopped and formed jerky, formed into meat sticks. Flavors come in Original, Peppered, Teriyaki, and Red Pepper.

Hungry Truckers Beef Jerky

hungry truckers beef jerky
Hungry Trucker Beef Jerky is the creation of Tim Kirchhofer, based out of Wapakoneta, OH. Tim started the line of jerky just this year.

Kirchhofer is a truck driver who relies on beef jerky to help him get through the day. He became tired of the same old stuff sold at truck stops, and wanted to come up something entirely his own. He offered it to friends and received so many words of encouragement, that he's trying his hand at the beef jerky business.

Hungry Trucker Beef Jerky currently offers 6 flavors, but have sent us 4 flavors for review. Right now all of their orders are done via Facebook.

Gran D Jerky - Honey BBQ (Revised Recipe)

gran d jerky
I had reviewed Gran D Jerky nearly a year ago, assigning a "Fair" rating for their Honey BBQ flavor due to a tough, hard chew, and lack of any honey or BBQ flavor.

The company has since revised its recipe and sent a new sample to me for re-review.

Gran D Jerky originally launched in January 2012, based in Caracas, Venezuela. To my understanding it's being sold in stores in Venezuela, and has sponsored a variety of sporting events around the country. The company is expanding its infrastructure to accommodate increasing demand.

Billy Franks beef jerky is a small-batch maker of eclectic beef jerky, based in London, England. Yates gets his taste and love for smoked meats after having lived in Texas for a number of years. Billy Franks beef jerky collaborates with London's street-food sensation, "The Rib Man" to create a special line of "Holy Fuck" beef jerky, some of the hottest jerky around, which I'll be reviewing later.

This Cheeseburger-flavored beef jerky was previously described by a hamburger reviewer as "a snack that nostalgically takes me back to eating McDonalds happy meal cheeseburgers when I was younger - but made with quality prime British beef".

To my understanding it's being sold in stores in Venezuela, and has sponsored a variety of sporting events around the country. This Honey BBQ flavor is their only variety thus far. The company's President sent me samples for review, saying that it's cut directly from pieces of meat, but that they're looking into making it from minced meat.

I don't know if they plan to distribute Gran D Jerky to the United States.

Dole Plantation Brand Ham Jerky - Pineapple

dole ham jerkyIn my recent trip to Hawaii I found these bags of Dole Plantation Brand Ham Jerky selling inside the ABC Stores. Dole is the famous producer of tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, and mango.

This Ham Jerky is actually the product of Bric-A-Brac, Inc., based out of Las Vegas, NV. You might be familiar with their Winchester brand of jerky that I reviewed in 2008. The jerky itself, however, was manufactured by Monogram Meat Snacks, who makes jerky for hundreds of other companies.

In addition to this Pineapple flavored Ham Jerky, Bric-A-Brac also offers a Hickory Smoked Jerky made from beef & chicken, which I'll review later.

Mike's Jerky - Special Pineapple

mikes jerkyNext in the series on Mike's Jerky is this Special Pineapple. See my previous reviews of their Lemon Pepper, Santa Fe, and Black Pepper varieties.

Mike's Jerky is a brand of Old World Beef Company based out of Albuquerque, NM. The company was started by Mike and Brenda Grier in 2008. The couple had been making jerky for many years and were always told that they ought to go into business selling it, except they were already busy running an RV dealership. But when the bad economy hit, their dealership went out of business, and that cleared the way for them to start Old World Beef Company.

This Special Pineapple variety is described by the company as "Crushed pineapples with sweet seasonings straight from the Hawaiian Islands."
