The Patriot Brands Beef Jerky is a new brand that launched in February of 2018 by James Napier of Cuba, MO. The company also markets a line of hot sauces under the same brand.

Napier seems well-known and well-liked by many as a patriot with his beard dyed red, white, and blue. The name "Patriot Brands" stems from his overwhelming support of the United States and the people who have fought for it. He's associated with "The Patriot Church", a congregation also based out of Cuba, MO.

This "Beyond Original" flavor is described by the company as, "...a great barrier blast of wonderful flavoring that will leave you saying This is Truly BEYOND ORIGINAL".

Beef, soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, natural smoke flavor, brown sugar, salt, meat tenderizer, garlic and onion powders, paprika, spices.

Review

The first flavors that hit the tongue is the smoke and soy sauce, bringing with it a moderate salt. The chewing brings on an increased soy sauce, with a bit more salt, but with a noticeable worcestershire mixed in too. It's tangy right away, lightly sweet, with touches of garlic and onion, along with a light bit of heat.

For something claims to go "beyond original", with a "great barrier blast", it actually seems to do just that. First, there's indeed a blast of flavor that hits right away due the smokiness and rich blend of soy sauce and worcestershire. That worcestershire adds a noticeable tang to the chewing, which seems to liven up the taste. The touches of garlic and onion in the background, along with the light bit of heat, helps create a very flavor-packed chewing.

Otherwise, the primary taste profile is a blend of soy sauce and worcestershire, where both seem to leave an equal footprint on the tongue. The smoke flavor is quite noticeable, with touches of seasonings in the background, along with a well-done cooked steak flavor at the end.

The meat consistency seems very lean, though some stringiness is noted. It's easy to rip off chunks, and the chewing seems moderately easy. The texture remains dry, though soft, and once chewed down, takes on a well-done cooked steak texture.

Verdict

This Beyond Original variety from The Patriot Brands Jerky indeed goes beyond the average lot of Original and Regular flavors offered by most jerky brands, packing in a brimming blend of soy sauce, worcestershire, and smoke flavors, along with light seasonings and touches of heat. While it's a dry chew, it remains soft with a moderate easy chewiness, and very much a steak-like texture. This is the kind of jerky that with hungry honchos with furled brows and gnarled knuckles would reach for to satiate their meat-fixes in the quickest way possible. No gummy chew, no fruity flavors, just lots of smoke and manly snacking for dedicated Constitutionalists.
