Bakke Brothers Brand - Teriyaki Snackin' Sticks

bakke brothers brand jerky
Bakke Brothers Brand is owned by Whiskey Hill Smokehouse, LLC based out of Hubbard, OR. Whiskey Hill also owns The Jerky Hut, as well as its own house brand, Whiskey Hill Smokehouse.

Bakke Brothers was started by Phil Bakke, one of Whiskey Hill's founders. The brand differs from The Jerky Hut in that it's free of preservatives such as sodium nitrite, sodium erythorbate, et al, and it's also gluten-free.

These "Teriyaki Snackin' Sticks" are made with the company's own teriyaki marinade and are marketed towards meat snackers who crave a sweeter, milder, chew.

Ingredients

Beef, brown sugar, sea salt, molasses powder, dried soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, spices, natural flavorings

Review

The first flavor that comes into view is teriyaki sauce, but followed by a light garlic, with low levels of salt. The chewing brings on a more defined teriyaki, along with natural meat flavors, and a bit of the onion.

For being labeled, "Teriyaki", these sticks do indeed deliver a familiar teriyaki flavor more geared towards American palates, having all the sweetened and savory goodness of soy sauce, but without the Japanese refinements that go into the classic, old world teriyaki.

Otherwise, the primary taste profile is a sausage-like natural meat flavor, with a sweet teriyaki palate, but boosted with garlic and onion.

These sticks have a firm feel and chewing that starts with a decent snap to the bite. There's a bit of a rubbery consistence at first, but eventually become more meaty as the chewing goes on. I do encounter some sparse hard bits of matter here and there, but for the most part seems like a pleasant, yet firm, snacking experience. The handling leaves a light layer of oil on the fingertips.

Verdict

These Teriyaki Snackin' Sticks from Bakke Brothers Brand deliver the perfect amount of sweetened soy sauce with a light garlic and onion seasoning, to create a Teriyaki flavor that seems well-suited for American palates, and perhaps even ideal for kids and young adults. They're quite mild, yet seasoned just enough to create a savory snacking experience. I like that these sticks have a firm feel and a decent snap to the bite, giving them a fresh character. Otherwise, these sticks won't surprise you with any unexpected bursts of flavor, or throw in something out of the ordinary. They're meant to deliver a predictable, expected flavor, yet with a fresh quality, all natural ingredients, and a firm, meaty chew that goes beyond the big national brands.
