Tibbs Beef Jerky - Spicy Garlic

Tibbs Beef Jerky is the creation of Steve Tibbs, who launched the business in 2016, based out of Bakersfield, CA. Tibbs descends from a line of barbecue grill masters and even dabbles in charcuterie.

But, the story behind Tibbs' entry into the jerky business was weight loss. Reaching 260 pounds at one point, he decided to forge together his love for meat snacks with hitting the gym. The first flavors to hit my tongue is a light meat flavor, followed by a noticeable garlic. There's a light amount of red pepper flavor coming in. The chewing brings on more garlic and more of the red pepper. There is a fair amount of heat building. The natural meat flavors are more defined in the latter part of chewing.

For being being marketed as, "Spicy Garlic", it definitely holds up well. It's certainly spicy, rating as a "medium hot" on our heat scale (level 4 out of 5). It also offers a nice red chile pepper flavor and maybe shades of black pepper. The garlic is also spot on. That pungent, rhizome spice takes the stage early on stays on board throughout the chewing. Both the red chile pepper and garlic seem to contribute a one-two knock out punch of flavor.

Otherwise, the primary taste profile is all garlic and red chile pepper, with touches of salt, and the natural meat flavors. There's no sweetness to this at all, making it perfect for low carb and Keto diets.

The meat consistency is largely dry, and a little extra chewy. It can take a bit of effort to get through, but not too bad. Overall, it has a meaty, steak-like chewing texture, with a light amount of stringiness.

Verdict

This sugar-free, Spicy Garlic style from Tibbs Beef Jerky give you your money's worth in both spice and garlic, placing the two tongue provoking headliners front and center on the palate. The level of heat is significant enough for burn addicts without forcing a hesitation in snacking. But it's not just all heat; the red chile flavor has an equal role in this too. Meanwhile, the garlic is strong enough that it takes the spotlight as well, adding an entirely different layer of spice. But ultimately, it's the natural meat flavors that really bind all this together.
