Two Brothers Jerky - Famously Hot

We reviewed Two Brothers Jerky a couple years ago, but they're back with revised recipes, new flavors, and new packaging.

The brand is the collaborative effort of two brothers separated at birth, Paul Brock and Eddie Wales. After growing up never knowing about the other, they one discovered they each had a brother. After they reunited, they took a trip out to a lake and realized they both loved beef jerky, and both had this crazy entrepreneurial spirit. Thus, Two Brothers Jerky was born. Now based out of both Durham, NC and Columbia, SC, Two Brothers Jerky features North Carolina grass fed, grass-finished beef, and made with no nitrates.

This "Famously Hot" (see previous review) is named for Wales' hometown of Columbia, SC, which is "Famously Hot". The company says, "The first bite delivers a deep intensity of crushed red peppers, citrus and garlic with a slow building heat that will make want to grab another piece."

Hombre Beef Jerky Sticks

Hombre Beef Jerky goes back to 1959 when Thomas Pyle founded the Pyle Meat Company in founded Pyle Meat Company in Eudora, KS, a small community nestled between Lawrence, KS and the KC Metro area. In 1982, Pyle added "Hombre Beef Jerky" to his product line up. When he retired in 2010, both the meat company and Hombre Beef Jerky went offline.

However in 2014, his son Joe and grandson Andrew relaunched the Hombre brand in the same area under the company name, Pyle Meat Products. The response has since been phenomenal. Hombre Beef Jerky now retails in over 500 outlets and looks to double that by 2017. Interestingly, the brand won Grand Champion Beef Jerky in 2015 & 2016 at the Kansas Meat Processors Association.

Hombre offers two varieties at this time, these "Beef Jerky Sticks", and the "Premium Beef Jerky" which we reviewed a few weeks ago.

Firecreek Jerky - Black Pepper

Firecreek Jerky is a brand launched by Ryan Hansen based out of Jerseyville, IL. He got it off the ground in February 2016.

Hansen has been making "small batch" jerky from his family's meat business for the past three years. He makes jerky using USDA Choice Angus Beef. Since then, he's secured a deal with USDA inspected co-packer and is now relaunching the brand.

According to Firecreek Jerky, this Black Pepper is described as based on their Original variety, but adds, "...just the right amount of perfectly ground black pepper". It's also labeled as, "all natural" and "minimally processed".

Buffalo Bob's Jerky - Exotic Meats

Buffalo Bob's is a brand owned by Mark Matthews, based out of Petaluma, CA. The brand's has enjoyed some great success developing a line of exotic meat jerky pressed into long strips that sell anywhere from $1.00 to $2.00 at country stores and other retail markets all across the country.

The jerky is manufactured by Zick's Specialty Meats, Inc., based out of Berrien Springs, MI, but the two companies are separately owned entities. The popularity of the brand stems from the low price and the novelty of exotic meats.

Buffalo Bob's Jerky is all chopped and formed and mixed with beef. It all comes pressed into these long strips.
