Well Food Company - Natural Beef Jerky Barbecue

well food company
Well Food Company is a brand of sports snacks that originally launched in 2009 as Paleo Brands Inc. It was started by John Welbourn, former offensive tackle with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, as well as his friend Joe Cappucio, founder of Del Mar Seafoods.

By 2013 the company had shed its "Paleo" name to become Well Food Company to encompass non-paleo snacks. Their offerings include packages of beef jerky, beef steak sticks, beef bars, and mixtures of jerky with fruit and nuts. They also offer whey protein bars and chocolates. Their jerky is marketed to athletes, health food, and paleo diet consumers.

This Natural Beef Jerky is labeled as "Barbecue", as well as "soy free" and "gluten free", using grass-fed beef raised without added hormones or antibiotics. It has no MSG and no preservatives and is said to meet Paleo requirements.

The folks at Perky Jerky have recently come out with a new variety of turkey jerky, expected to roll out this month.

"Exclusive Black Label" is different from their existing line of turkey jerky in that it's made from turkey raised without added hormones or antibiotics, and is gluten-free.

The Exclusive Black Label line includes the same four flavors already available in their existing turkey jerky lineup, Original, Sweet & Spicy, Teriyaki, and Hot & Bothered. The Original variety of this Exclusive Black Label line doesn't include the worcestershire sauce that's used in the Turkey Perky Jerky, (see our original review).

Participants Wanted for 1st Annual Jerky Fest

dukes smoked meats jerky fest
Duke’s Smoked Meats is compiling interest to produce the first annual “Jerky Fest” this upcoming summer of 2014.

Ideally, the daylong festival and competition would showcase craft smoked meats from across the nation and provide an engaging experience complete with beer, music and of course, jerky. The event would be free for participating vendors and would provide a valuable opportunity to sample jerky and sell product to the general public.

“Jerky Fest” would also include a competition where a team of judges would review each vendor’s submitted product and name winners from a variety of different meat categories.

Currently, we are gauging how much interest this event potentially has and encourage you to sign up, if at all interested.

Keep in mind, signing up IS NOT a confirmation of participation but, once we get more details together, if interested we will reach out to you with more information. Again, this event is free for vendors and is a call of interest. More information on location, date and submission process to come.

The newest flavor from Gnawjaw Jerky is this "Nuclear Lick".

It's described by the company as "a citrus base with layers of flavor that at first don't heat your mouth up.. but wait a minute or two and you will see how ghost peppers got their name."

We first reviewed Gnawjaw last April with their first three initial flavors, Sweet, Angry Dill, and Cajun. Gnawjaw Jerky is based out of York, PA, launched by a long time jerky craftsman named Eric Farrington, who makes jerky in his own state-inspected dehydration facility he calls, "The Beef Morgue".

Long Beach Jerky Co. was founded in June 2013 by Alex Naticchioni and Richie Beckman, based out of Long Beach, CA.

It's roots goes back to Alex's grandfather "gramps", who was a beef jerky hobbyist. Gramps would make jerky each year during the Christmas season and stuff stockings with it. As Alex got older, he started helping Gramps make jerky and eventually learned the whole recipe and process. He teamed up with his friend Richie and the two started Long Beach Jerky Co.

Made from brisket meat, this "Spicy Teriyaki" variety is described by the company as, "First it's sweet but then the heat shows up like an ex-girlfriend you haven't seen in years. Unexpected." Steven Tyler of Aerosmith actually gave an endorsement of this jerky.
